East Haven’s Board of Fire Commissioners meets Monday night with one main item on its agenda: choosing candidates for deputy fire marshal. It is one of a busy run of town meetings over the next two weeks, as early voting continues at Town Hall ahead of the Nov. 3 election.
Here is what is on the town’s meeting calendar and Agenda Center, as of Friday morning, Oct. 23. Agendas that have not been posted yet usually go up a day or two before a meeting.
Monday, Oct. 26: Deputy fire marshal on the fire board’s agenda
The Board of Fire Commission meets at 7 p.m. at the Foxon Firehouse, 1420 N. High St. According to its posted agenda, the board plans to go into executive session to consider candidates for deputy fire marshal, followed by a “possible nomination and selection of candidates.” Executive sessions are closed to the public under state law, but any vote has to happen in open session.
The fire marshal’s office is the part of the department that investigates fires and enforces fire codes. On Thursday, the town’s fire marshal helped confirm the improperly installed water heater found at a Salvatore Drive home where a man died in a suspected carbon monoxide incident.
Earlier that evening, the Town Council’s Administrative Services Committee meets at 6 p.m. in the lower-level conference room at Town Hall, 250 Main St., according to the town calendar.
Tuesday, Oct. 27: School board (police commission moved to Monday)
- Board of Education, 7 p.m., 35 Wheelbarrow Lane.
- Board of Police Commissioners: Update, Oct. 24: the regular Oct. 27 meeting was canceled. The board will hold a special meeting instead on Monday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. at police headquarters, 471 North High St. Here’s what’s on the agenda.
The Board of Education agenda was not posted as of Friday morning.
Thursday, Oct. 29: Old Cemetery Board plans for a 325th anniversary
The Old Cemetery Board meets at 7 p.m. on Zoom only. Its agenda, which includes the meeting link and dial-in number, lists updates on landscaping, bamboo concerns, a retention wall, entrance pavers, plaque restoration and the board’s town web page. One item looks well ahead: the formation of a “2032 Committee” for the 325th anniversary of the Old Cemetery.
Tuesday, Nov. 3: Election Day, Town Hall closed
Town Hall is closed on Election Day, according to the town calendar. Polls are open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Before then, early voting continues daily through Sunday, Nov. 1, in the lower-level conference room at Town Hall, with extended 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. hours on Tuesday, Oct. 27, and Thursday, Oct. 29. Details are in our early voting guide and our 2026 voter guide.
Wednesday, Nov. 4: Planning and zoning, youth services
- Planning and Zoning Commission, 7 p.m., public hearing. The commission set this date for its hearing on new vape-shop rules and a Morgan Avenue rezoning; here is what is on the table.

Still pending: the $5.1 million capital bond
The Board of Finance held a special meeting Wednesday, Oct. 21, to discuss a proposed capital ordinance and a resolution to refer it to the Town Council. The agenda describes an ordinance appropriating $5,146,231 for public improvements in the 2026-2027 capital budget and authorizing $5,146,231 in bonds to pay for them. The agenda did not list the individual projects, and no minutes or action report had been posted as of Friday morning. We will report what is in the package when it reaches the Town Council.
Also coming up: Zoning appeals on Nov. 19
The Zoning Board of Appeals continued several hearings from its Oct. 15 meeting to its Nov. 19 regular meeting, according to its actions and decisions. They include two applications for 220B Cosey Beach Ave., one of them a coastal area site plan review, plus requests for 124 Charter Oak Ave. and 52 Brown Road. On Oct. 15 the board approved variances for properties on Forbes Place, Bradford Avenue, Morgan Avenue, Hemingway Avenue, Foxon Road and North High Street, some with conditions.
All agendas, minutes and meeting links are posted on the town’s Agenda Center.
