Missed the registration deadline?
You can still vote. Connecticut offers Same-Day Registration to eligible residents during all 14 days of early voting and on Election Day. Call the East Haven registrars to confirm the Election Day location.
Absentee ballots: no excuse needed
New for 2026, you no longer need a reason, such as illness or being out of town, to vote by absentee ballot.
- Apply online at MyVote.CT.gov, or get an application from the Town Clerk’s office at Town Hall.
- Add your phone number and email to the application if you want the clerk to contact you about an error.
- Sign and print your name on the return envelope.
- Return it by mail, in an official drop box or to the Town Clerk. It must arrive by 8 p.m. on Nov. 3. If you hand-deliver it yourself, the deadline is the close of business on Nov. 2.
- If you get sick or are hospitalized six or fewer days before the election, use the state’s paper Emergency Application for Absentee Ballot.

What to bring
Most voters need a Social Security card or another preprinted form of ID that shows their name along with their address, signature or photo. If you don’t have ID, you can sign a statement on state Form ED-681 and still vote.
Some first-time voters who registered by mail must show a current photo ID with their name and address, or a copy of a recent utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck or government document showing their name and address.
Your rights at the polls
You have the right to see a sample ballot, get help using the voting equipment and vote if you are in line when polls close. If your name is missing from the voter list, you can ask for a provisional ballot.
A state law new for 2026 bars law enforcement officers from checking voter qualifications or loitering within 250 feet of a voting location, with limited exceptions. It also bars masks in that zone except for religious, medical or weather reasons.
To report a problem, tell the moderator at your polling place before you leave. You can also call the State Elections Enforcement Commission at 1-866-733-2463.
